That’s right! For you CSA members out there, the season begins next week. Our first veggie distribution is happening a little earlier than we expected, but some of our greens just can’t wait another week. Remember: Pick-ups here at the farm happen on Tuesday from 3-7pm; pick-ups at the Allen Avenue Unitarian Universalist Church in Portland happen on Friday from 4:30-6:30pm; and market pick-ups happen at our stands during regular market hours: 7am-2pm on Weds. in Monument Square in Portland, and 8am-1pm on Saturday in Bridgton.
Kate returns to the farm tomorrow, and we are obviously very excited to have her back. Sonya and I have managed to hold our own alone these past couple of weeks, and we’ve gotten a lot done. That nice stretch of rainy weather we had was much needed for the field crops and allowed us to turn our attention toward greenhouse work and a few random projects we needed to get finished (cleaning up our little barn was one of them). That rain also really made the weeds happy, so in additon to a continuation of transplanting and seeding this week (Flowers! More lettuce! More salad mix and herbs! More carrots! Cauliflower! Believe it or not, sweet potatoes!), we’ve tried to get a jump on weeding. This is the time of year when diligent weeding can really make or break the season, so we’re trying to stay on top of it! If anyone is itching to help out with the weed battle, we’d love any extra hands we can get! Just give us a call or e-mail us to let us know when you’re coming.
Also, thanks to all of you who came to our most recent potluck last weekend. It was great fun to meet a few of our newest CSA members and show them around the farm for the first time, and the grub that everyone brought was wonderful, as always. Sonya and I will be picking a date for the June potlcuk soon, so stay tuned!
